Look beyond the report card.
A practical reflection on noticing strengths in everyday life.
Grades tell part of a child's story. Their everyday actions can help you notice other interests and strengths worth nurturing.
Watch for the moments of energy.
Notice when your child becomes absorbed, volunteers to help or returns to an activity without being prompted. Ask what they enjoy about it.
Describe what you see.
Instead of assigning a label, make a specific observation: "You found another way to solve that" or "You helped everyone feel included." Invite them to reflect on it.
Offer room to experiment.
Make small opportunities to try something new. Interests can change, and exploration is useful even when an activity doesn't become a lasting passion.
Keep the conversation open.
Use your observations as questions, not predictions. A child's future should have room to grow with them.
